Sorry of the spelling...no spell check and I'm pretty tired right now...
I am in a AC chilled RV the size of my first apartment on the side of the road in Brawley CA...We're not animals we dont have to live like animals...
The race started off with June, Scott (aka twinkletoes) and I sitting on the side of the road at mile 23.7 waiting for Jason to pop through. We waited and waited and waited....he had 23.6 miles of hillly southern Ca riding to do and everytime up to tthis point I've been following him on this section of the route. a hour later we handed off , flawless I might add, a now warm gato bottle and a warm drink box. for the next six hours we leap frogged with him over Palomar Mt, on to Lake Hanshaw and over to the wind swept high pastures of Warner Springs. The temps were increasing and the first thing Jason asked for was his custom made Ice Cold Towel arm sleeves I made him.(icecoldtowels.com). This is no joke, these towels are a soft rubbery material that when moistened they are actually colder than you can imagine. So nice is the material that when I handed Hammer the special desert sun proctector hat he bought he immedately threw it back and me and sadi "no! i want the ice cold towel hat you made me."
as we climbed Palomar Strasser the freight train chugged up and passed Hammer just after Hammer had a flat. By the time I got up to the top and started down the otherside the first rider I come across is not the Hammer, guess who?
I leap frog up to Hammer and pass him off a bottle and he looks behind him slightly puzzled and said.."Where the heck did Susan go?" By the bottem of the Glass elevator Jason put 7 minutes of Strasser and took all but 15 second out of Gersoft. Not a bad ride. As the night rolled in the euro boys put the pedal to the metal and came passed on highway 86 in Westmoreland but each gave Jason a big smile and recognition. We made our crew change at a little place I spoced out last month just east of Brawley and TS02. A quick little bathroom break, lights for him helmet and off they went into the night. 10 minutes behind the leaders.
Let the suffering begin!
